A jazz legend settles on the stage of our festival! Self-taught saxophonist at the age of nine, his best friend Booker Little also became a recognized trumpeter. As for Charles Lloyd, he accompanied the jazzman Coleman Hawkins and blues singers and rhythm'n'blues Howlin' Wolf, BB King and Bobby Blue Bland before studying classical music at the University of California in 1956 and playing in Los Angeles with Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, Bobby Hutcherson or Gerald Wilson.
Charles Lloyd then deepened his experience with Cannonball Adderley, Herbie Hancock or Keith Jarrett. Friend of John Coltrane, he was the first jazz musician to perform on the pop scene in the company of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. He is a living legend of saxophone, this year playing with his quartet made of the new generation of American jazzmen: unmissable.
