American-Haitian living in New Orleans, Leyla McCalla performs multicultural music in her own image. Influenced by Creole, Cajun and Haitian traditions, but also by folk, blues and jazz, the young singer and multi-instrumentalist plunges us into the Louisiana bayou, then into Haitian folklore. On cello, banjo or guitar, in French, in Creole or in English, her raw, instinctive singing contrasts with her training as a classical musician and gives her music an original tone. Whether revisiting traditional songs or in her own original compositions, Leyla McCalla’s songs are marked by timeless elegance. She pursues her explorations on her new album A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey

Line-up: Leyla McCalla: cello, banjo, vocal / TBC: violin, vocal / Daniel Trembay: guitar, banjo, percussion, vocal

Album : A day for the Hunter,  A Day for the Prey - Jazz Village
